Dental Infection Pathways
This website is a learning resource for dentistry students, visualising the dental infection pathways in the head and neck.
A brief overview of Dental Infection Pathways
Dental Infections have a variety of different disease trajectories, based on position, root length, and various immune responses to the infection.
GENERAL INFORMATION
A healthy adult dentition is made up of an average 32 teeth, made up of 12 molars, 8 premolars, 4 canines, 8 incisor. Some individuals can have missing adult teeth.
There are two main trajectories: maxillary and mandibular, based on whether the tooth is positioned on the maxillary or mandibular palate.
The second element to consider when determining dental tooth infections is the whether the root of the tooth is long or short.
